Halfkit vs Fathom

Halfkit vs Fathom

Fathom is a mature reporting and forecasting tool with a large accountant following. Halfkit is narrower: consolidation and reporting for groups on QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Books and TallyPrime, priced per company.

Which fits

Fair answers first.

Both are good tools for different jobs. Here's where Fathom is the better pick, and where Halfkit is.

Where Fathom is stronger

Choose Fathom if…

  • You want three-way forecasts (P&L, balance sheet and cash) with scenarios. Halfkit doesn't do driver-based three-way forecasting.
  • Your companies use QuickBooks Desktop, MYOB, Sage, FreeAgent or Excel. Halfkit connects none of these.
  • Your group is large: Fathom consolidates up to 300 entities, 50 of them multi-currency.
  • Presentation is the priority. Fathom's visuals are polished, and many accountants already know it.
  • You report in a currency Halfkit doesn't offer yet. Halfkit reports in INR, USD, GBP, SGD, EUR and CAD only.
  • You're a firm with many single-company clients who don't need consolidation: Fathom Portfolio is $67/mo for 100 companies.

Where Halfkit fits

Choose Halfkit if…

  • Any company is on Zoho Books or TallyPrime. Mix them with QuickBooks Online and Xero in one group.
  • You'd rather accept eliminations than build them. Halfkit suggests intercompany pairs, including one account against several, and eliminates every side in one click.
  • Subsidiaries are partly owned. Net income is split between owners of the parent and non-controlling interests, with NCI in equity, without a spreadsheet.
  • You need Schedule III for an Indian group reporting under Ind AS (Division II).
  • You want a flat price: $12.99 per company per month, unlimited users.
  • A 13-week cash forecast from invoices, bills and planned payments is enough, alongside budgets and rolling forecasts.

Monthly, in US dollars, before tax. Halfkit annual is $129.99 per company per year; in India, ₹999 a month or ₹9,999 a year per company. Fathom Portfolio is $67/mo for up to 100 companies without consolidation, which suits firms reporting on many separate clients.

Switching

Moving from Fathom to Halfkit.

What carries over, what doesn't, and how to check the numbers before you commit.

  1. Check your ledgers first

Halfkit reads QuickBooks Online, Xero, Zoho Books and TallyPrime. Companies on QuickBooks Desktop, MYOB, Sage or FreeAgent can't come across.

  2. Rebuild the group

Name the holding company, add subsidiaries and set the share owned. Halfkit then splits out non-controlling interests, so you can retire the Excel workaround.

  3. Re-check eliminations

Accept Halfkit's suggested pairs, then compare them with your Fathom rules. Halfkit eliminates accounts; if you rely on fixed-value eliminations in Fathom, decide how you'll handle those first.

  4. Forecasts don't carry over

Three-way forecasts and scenarios have no equivalent in Halfkit. Budgets start from last year's actuals and can be edited in a grid or in Excel.

  5. Match a closed month

Run the same month in both during the free period. Exchange rates may differ slightly: Halfkit uses ECB monthly averages unless you enter your own.

Questions

Halfkit vs Fathom: questions.

Does Halfkit do three-way forecasting like Fathom?

No. Halfkit has 12-month budgets, rolling forecasts and a 13-week cash forecast, but not driver-based three-way forecasts with scenarios. If that's central to your work, Fathom is the stronger choice.

Can Halfkit handle subsidiaries we don't fully own?

Yes. Set the share owned and Halfkit consolidates in full, splits net income between owners of the parent and non-controlling interests, and shows NCI in equity. Fathom's help suggests an Excel workaround for this, as of October 2026.

Is Halfkit cheaper than Fathom?

At 25 companies, Halfkit's list price is $324.75/mo against a reported $450/mo for Fathom, and Halfkit offers volume pricing over 10 companies. Fathom doesn't publish prices for 3 or 10 companies, so ask them for a quote and compare.
